The Avenue Theater, located four blocks from downtown Denver's historic Brown Palace Hotel, is a perfect blend of comedies, plays and improv performances and shows. This theater is run by the Avenue Theater Group, a nonprofit organization and for over 20 years this small, quaint but comfortable place has been Denver's favorite Theater. Famous for its plays like,"Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "The Bible Abridged," "Girls Only," "I love you, your perfect, now change," "Breech," and much much more, people look forward to seeing what they put on next!

The tickets are well priced and they offer discounts for students. If you are looking for a place to see some awesome, hilarious, local theater, then Avenue Theater is the right place for you.

Bravo ! Avenue Theatre ...

I love the ambiance of this theater. We are so lucky to have a ton of small theaters that are putting out amazing work, but sometimes you can tell they are operating on a shoestring budget because they are a little run down. This is definitely not the case with Avenue. I recently saw 60 Minutes: the Musical and it was pretty hilarious. I think one of my favorite parts were the fake commercials they had made for the breaks between story lines. The actors are all great and I saw some crossovers from the improv show I had recently watched at the Bovine. Plus they serve beer and wine. I'm definitely a fan of that. Last night we saw The Wigs Improv Comedy Show (mini plug: if you get the opportunity to see The Wigs, GO! They are hilar!). I think the place seats a max of 75 people and there were maybe 15 empty seats. $10 at the door including a free drink? Hell yeah! That's cheaper than a movie. Plus, drink prices are reasonable, $3 a beer. They don't try to gouge ya like comedy clubs and other theaters. The size of the theater was perfect for audience participation. The whole place just had a great, positive energy. Once a month you can also check out their Radio Avenue show as well, which is recorded for KGNU for Monday night airing. If you show up for their taping on Sunday afternoon, be prepared to get involved. It's fun and it's free. The venue is very, VERY intimate. I would easily say that it's even tiny. But, for certain shows, that works the best. The staff is super nice and the building itself is in great shape.
