The exclusive U.S. showing of the internationally acclaimed exhibition Yves Saint Laurent: The Retrospective,
at the Denver Art Museum is an event that is not to be missed by any Denver Fashion fan. The Denver Art Museum will hold this event in the Anschutz Gallery in museum’s Hamilton Building from March 25, 2012, through July 7, 2012 and is the only U.S. venue chosen for one of the biggest retrospective of Yves Saint Laurent fashion-influencing work.
The museum is looking forward to pay tribute to the legendary designer’s 40 years of creativity by featuring a stunning selection of his 200 haute couture outfits including the very first Le Smoking along with numerous sketches, photographs, drawings, films and even a replica of his workspace that would best illustrate the development of Saint Laurent’s style and the historical foundations of his work.
"We do expect big crowds," said museum spokeswoman April Pritchard. "I think fashion fans will travel near and far to see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition”. Asked why the exhibit will be exclusive to Denver, Ashley Pritchard stated, “The museum’s leadership visited Paris last summer and was so moved by the presentation and the connection between art, design and style that they wanted to bring the exhibition to the DAM to share with the U.S. audience. The immersive and interactive environment of the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition compliments the DAM’s onsite programming”.
Organized thematically, the 15-part themed exhibit will take visitors on an amazing discovery of Saint Laurent’s career, style, and historical influence from his first days at Dior in 1958 to his final runway presentation of evening dresses in 2002.
Like a time capsule of the designer's work, the Denver Art Museum exhibit will not only examine Yves Saint Laurent’s relationship with other artists and his famous patrons including Princess Grace of Monaco, Nan Kempner, Catherine Deneuve, and Diana Vreeland but will also give a view of his exotic travels that inspired many of his superior collections. Let me also add that in Yves Saint Laurent's words, many of his pieces were inspired by imaginary journeys he had dreamed. According to him, he used his imagination on countries he didn’t know.
All of Saint Laurent's creations that will be featured in the exhibit have been preserved by the Foundation Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent that aims to retrace and preserve the history of fashion as created by Yves Saint Laurent!
