The Pacific Mercantile is located conveniently between my office and my house (much to the chagrin of my wallet). An avid home cook, I've been on an Asian kick lately and have visited Pacific Mercantile to stock up on the necessary ingredients for homemade pad Thai, hot and sour soup, green curry, and soba salad. There's a wide selection of Asian grocery items, whether you want flavors from Japan, Thailand, Korea, or China. I was impressed by the variety. I got a good price on anchovy paste for a Spanish dish I was making. There are also some interesting items that seem out-of-place but apparently reflect the influence of Europeans on some Asian nations. There's Droste chocolate, coffee with chicory, and a few other items. Great selection of packaged foods, especially Japanese snacks! This little market is a diamond in the rough. It's got fish sauce, thai curry mixes, pocky sticks and a variety of other packaged goods from different asian countries. Their fresh food sections (vegetables and meats) is slim. If they had a wider selection of veggies. The cashiers are humorous and incredibly helpful.

A place to get Asian goodies without paying an arm and a leg for them. Pretty good selection for such a little place (pretty much all you need). Again, super pleased at the prices. I'm always finding new things to love here. Latest favorite thing are the mochi ice cream balls. Wow. I got the mini variety pack (chocolate, vanilla, and green tea) and man are those things addictive. You have to try them to understand. It's not your average grocery store ice cream treat. As for the produce section, again they have just about anything you could want. However one time I got some shiso mint and when I got it home, the leaves on the bottom of the container were very soggy and had gone bad. Only a few of the top leaves were salvageable, but that one experience wouldn't keep me from going back. I'll just open it and check for myself before going to the register next time.
