Root Down Denver
1600 W 33rd Ave

Neighborhood: Northwest, Highland,

Root Down Denver aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.

Root down" is a jazz term, and at his new restaurant, chef/owner Justin Cucci riffs on all things green. He even recycled an old gas station as part of the ambitious project, which resulted in one of the coolest spaces in town, filled with retro chic inside -- and with a stunning view of the Denver skyline outside. The kitchen emphasizes locally sourced ingredients, and Cucci's even growing some of his own in Root Down's two gardens. While the food is uneven, the bar is unbeatable.

Excellent choice of vegetarian and organic food

My sister took me to this place while I visited her in Denver last month. I’m a vegetarian and love to eat out but I have often found best restaurants lacking great veggie options. This place was certainly amazing with beautiful ambience, super friendly service and above all, with excellent choice of vegetarian and organic food in the menu. I had the organic Risotto and the sweet potato falafel that were just incredibly delicious. My sister had her favorite lamb sliders that she says are exquisite. Our drinks the Cardamom Fizz were delicious too. This place made my visit to Denver memorable. Can’t wait to try it out again when next time I visit my sister.

Delicious menu, drinks and service, perfect dining

I liked this place instantly when I came here a few weeks ago. A friend had suggested it and we made reservations. The food was outstanding and unique with clean and appetizing presentation. Everyone from the servers, hosts to their talented mixologists are tremendously knowledgeable, quick and friendly. My husband and I had a great evening with a superb anniversary dinner thanks to the Root Down delicious menu, drinks and service. We had a perfect dining experience and gladly give them 5 stars.

Mediocre quality food

My experience of this place is of a mediocre quality food.  Everything that I ordered seemed too greasy. From the overcooked greasy sausage to the duck hash that was bland, the food was very disappointing.  The Argyll burger had too many things on it that kind of ruined its taste for me and it wasn’t anything to write home about. Even the fries sucked. I’d rather visit other places that I know serve superb burgers and lunch options than trying out this place again.

Delicious drinks and has attentive staff and great atmosphere

I love this place. The food was fresh and excellent. The place offers delicious drinks and has attentive staff and great atmosphere. What more can you ask for? However I recommend reservations. The arugula salad with a light lemon dressing that comes on the side is just great and the risotto is the best that I've ever tasted. The Pearracuda that I had was a super drink. Will definitely be back to try other menu options.

Halibut tasted dry, mushy and tasteless

It is one of the most disappointing places that I've been to. Service was slow and the food was lacking taste. The halibut tasted dry, mushy and tasteless while the carrot pure was mediocre and nothing special to write home about. And what’s worst is the fact that the menu is overpriced for such bland food options. My total bill for two bad dishes and a drink that was just ok: $ 120…I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this place again when there are much better dining options available in the area.
